Guidelines for applicants

Applications to the RVWT are temporarily closed and will reopen in the week of 17 October 2023. Please check back then, as we are making changes to the process.

The next deadline for applications will be 4 January 2023 for events/projects taking place after 1 April.

The principal areas in which we will make grants are:

Performance and Recording

The performance, commissioning or recording of music by professional composers active in the last 100 years, or those entering the profession, who have not yet achieved a broad national or international reputation.  

  • – Grants will generally only be awarded for notated music, scored for live performers. (works combining live performers and electronics will be eligible).
  • – Supported composers must be of British or Irish nationality, or have been resident in the UK for a minimum of five* years.
  • – We do not generally support the performances of composers currently in higher education, or performances by student ensembles.

(*Three years for those applying for the Vaughan Williams Bursaries.)  

Developmental Opportunities

Projects or organisations in the UK which create developmental opportunities for composers or which promote public knowledge and appreciation of British or Irish music of the last 100 years.

Postgraduate Study

Support for postgraduate students of composition taking first masters degrees at British institutions.
